(Washington, D.C.) – The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation Tuesday requiring full transparency surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) voted in favor of forcing the Justice Department to release the files.
“I have always supported full transparency when it comes to the Epstein files. Before my time in Congress, I served as a case manager in child protective services and worked closely with victims of abuse,” Houchin said. “I have seen the trauma these children endure, and my focus has always been on protecting victims and holding predators fully accountable.
“Anyone involved in these horrific crimes must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The brave women who have come forward deserve justice,” she added. “As these files are released, every victim must know that their safety and dignity come first and that their government is committed to protecting them, not the people who abused them.”
The vote in the House was nearly unanimous – 427 to 1. The lone “no” vote was cast by Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA-03), who says he wanted more protections in the bill for innocent people who may be hurt if their names are revealed as the files are released.
