
South Ripley defeated previously unbeaten South Decatur 60-34 in girls high basketball last night. Raider senior Kaiya Rinear reached two career milestones – 1,000 points and 100 steals. Rinear led all scorers with 21 points. Claire Samples added 14 for the 3-1 Raiders. Taylor Somers tossed in 10 points to lead the host Cougars, who fall to 5-1. The JVs played two quarters. That contest went to South Ripley 17-10; Oldenburg Academy went on the road and knocked off Northeastern 50-37; and Switzerland County got past North Decatur 50-46.

Batesville went on the road and swept Jac-Cen-Del in boys middle school basketball last night. It was the Bulldog 7th graders over the Eagles 48-18. BMS improves to 7-2. Batesville won the 8th grade contest 44-26 and is now 8-0 on the year.
South Ripley Jr./Sr. High Athletic Director Jeff Gorrell will retire at the end of the current school year. Gorrell submitted his letter of retirement to the school board this week. He has been at South Ripley for 11 years, and also serves as the school’s Dean of Students. The district plans to post the vacancy in the coming days.
The Indiana Pacers look to snap their eight-game losing streak when they take on the Charlotte Hornets tonight in downtown Indianapolis. The Pacers have the worst record in the NBA at 1-13. Coverage on the Sports Voice begins following girls high school basketball.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase’s appeal of a one-game suspension has been upheld by the NFL. Chase was suspended for spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey last Sunday, and will sit out the Bengals home game this week against the New England Patriots.
The Cincinnati Reds have added three prospects to the 40-man roster. The team selected from Triple-A Louisville the contract of outfielder Héctor Rodríguez; and selected from Double-A Chattanooga the contracts of infielders Edwin Arroyo and Leo Balcazar. The Reds also designated for assignment right handed pitcher Carson Spiers.
The new College Football Playoff rankings don’t hold anything new for Indiana and Notre Dame. The Hoosiers are still #2 in the eyes of the Selection Committee, while Notre Dame is at #9. Ohio State is still ranked first, and Texas A&M remains in the third spot. Georgia moves up to #4 after Alabama lost last week. Texas Tech is now in the fifth spot.
