Batesville girls golf won its sixth consecutive IHSAA sectional crown on Saturday at Greensburg Country Club. The Bulldogs as a team shot a 320, followed by second place East Central at 385, and third place Greensburg at 388. All three teams advance to the regional. Franklin County (406) was fourth; North Decatur (418) came in sixth; Jac-Cen-Del (441) was seventh; South Ripley (460) finished eighth; Milan (469) was ninth, and Oldenburg (478) finished 10th. Individually, the Trojans Rowan Pies was medalist with a 68. Batesville’s Ava South was right behind at 69, with Bulldog teammate Zoey Ahern in third with an 80. Other individuals advancing to the regional round are North Decatur’s Mary Stier (94) and Emma Tolhurst of Franklin County (96).

Batesville cross country took part in the 18-team Flashrock Invitational at Carmel on Saturday. The Bulldog girls came in 13th, led by Jayla Bedel, who earned a medal with a time of 19:30 and 34th place finish. The BHS boys were 11th, led by Ethan Rahschulte’s 28th place finish.

Greensburg  junior high cross country ran in the 30-team Eagle Classic at Brown County on Saturday. The Pirate boys team came in 20th, while the girls squad finished 18th.

Batesville boys tennis fell at Shelbyville four sets to one. The Bulldogs are now 11-5 on the season.

Batesville girls soccer crushed Jennings County 12-0 on Saturday. Hailee Weisenbach recorded a hat trick, while Bulldog teammates Emma Miller and Maddie Prewitt both found the back of the net twice.

Batesville volleyball went 2-2 at Saturday’s Franklin Community Tournament. The Bulldogs posted wins over Lawrence Central and Purdue Poly Technical and fell to the host Grizzly Cubs and Bishop Chatard.

South Decatur volleyball fell to Greenwood Christian in four sets. The Cougars won the first set before falling in the last three.

The Reds blanked the Chicago Cubs 1-0 to complete the four-game series sweep at Great American Ball Park in a game heard yesterday on WRBI. Gavin Lux’s RBI double to right field scored Matt McLain with the game’s only run. Cincinnati’s win coupled with a New York Mets loss puts the Reds in the final National League Wild Card spot with six games to go. The Reds also own the tie-breaker over the Mets. Cincinnati is off today before opening the final home series tomorrow night with the first of three against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Minnesota Vikings crushed the Cincinnati Bengals 48-10 yesterday in Minneapolis. The Vikings jumped out to a 34-3 lead at halftime. The Bengals committed five turnovers. Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers returned an interception for a touchdown and hit the end zone a second time when he scooped up a fumble and scored. Bengals quarterback Jake Browning threw for 140 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The 38-point margin of defeat is the largest in Bengals franchise history. With the loss, the Bengals fall to 2-1.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow underwent successful surgery on Friday to repair a Grade 3 turf toe injury. There’s no time frame for his return. Burrow is expected to miss at least three months.

The Indianapolis Colts blew out the Tennessee Titans 41-20 in Nashville. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor ran for three touchdowns; Daniel Jones threw for 228 yards and another score. The Colts are 3-0 for the first time since 2009.

The Indiana Fever bounced the Las Vegas Aces 89-73 in Game One of their WNBA Semifinal Playoff series in Sin City. The Fever’s Kelsey Mitchell poured in a game-high 34 points. Indiana takes a one game to none lead in the best of five series, with Game Two tomorrow night in Las Vegas.
