Batesville girls golf won its fifth straight EIAC title on Saturday at Arbor Crossing Golf Club in Connersville. East Central senior Rowan Pies earned conference MVP with a four over par 76. Team results were: 1. Batesville (346); 2. Franklin County (412); 3. East Central (413); 4. Greensburg (442); 5. Connersville (459); 6. Rushville (473); 7. Lawrenceburg (539); 8. South Dearborn (INC).

North Decatur girls golf claimed the Mid-Hoosier Conference championship at Timbergate Golf Course in Edinburgh on Saturday with a team score of 218. The Chargers’ Carmen Thackery was individual medalist with a 48, and teammate Mary Stier finished second by carding a 49.

Batesville girls cross country won the Ben Davis Invitational with a team score of 44. The Bulldogs Ava Wade finished first individually with a time of 19:31. Teammate Jayla Bedel was a close second at 19:34. Wade and Bedel both posted personal records, as did ninth place finisher Sam Adams.

Milan’s Gabe Riehle won the boys race at the Jac-Cen-Del Cross Country Invitational on Saturday with a time of 15:27. Teammate Lucas Cooney came in second at 15:55. Teamwise, North Decatur finished fifth (114); the Indians were seventh (150) and South Ripley came in ninth (250). North Decatur posted a sixth place finish in the girls race.

Batesville won the 2025 Ripley County Volleyball Tournament Championship on its home court on Saturday. The Bulldogs took down South Ripley in three sets (25-6, 25-16, 25-18), and bested Milan in straight sets (25-21, 25-14, 25-10) for the title.

Oldenburg Academy won the Southwestern Spartan Volleyball Invite on Saturday to improve to 10-2 on the season. The Twister JV volleyball team was runner-up at the Lawrenceburg Tournament.

Batesville girls soccer swept Franklin County. It was the Bulldogs over the Wildcats in the varsity contest 4-nil. Karsyn Watson found the back of the net twice for BHS. Addie Reding had three assists. Batesville won the JV contest 2-nil.

Batesville boys tennis finished two matches at Saturday’s Columbus North Invitational before the third was cancelled by inclement weather. BHS finished 0-2 on the day as a team, but played some great tennis across the board, according to coach Mitch Taylor.

The Athletics completed a three-game series sweep by downing the Reds 7-4 in West Sacramento in a game heard yesterday on WRBI. The loss to the non-contending, last place A’s put a huge dent in the Reds playoff hopes. Cincinnati is now two-and-a-half games behind the New York Mets for the final National League Wild Card spot; one game behind the San Francisco Giants, and a half-game in back of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Reds begin the final leg of the current road trip when they open a three-game series tonight in St. Louis against the Cardinals. Zach Littell starts for Cincinnati. St. Louis counters with lefthander Matthew Liberatore. Coverage begins at 7:15 on 103.9 FM.

The Cincinnati Bengals got past the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-27 in the home opener yesterday. Jake Browning’s leaping quarterback sneak with 18 seconds remaining capped off a 15-play, 95-yard game winning drive. Browning passed for 241 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. He came off the bench after Joe Burrow left in the second quarter with turned out to be turf toe. ESPN is reporting that Burrow’s turf toe could require surgery, which would sideline him for about three months. Cincinnati is 2-0 for the first time since 2018.

Spencer Shrader’s 45 yard field goal as time expired lifted the Indianapolis Colts over the Denver Broncos 29-28 yesterday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Before he booted the game winner, Shrader missed from 60 yards but a penalty against the Broncos gave him a second chance. Shrader was five for five on field goal attempts on the day. Quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 316 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score. The Colts are 2-0 for the first time since 2009.

The Atlanta Dream dispatched the Indiana Fever 80-68 in Game 1 of their WNBA Playoff series. Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 27 points. The Dream takes a one game to none lead in the best of three series. The Fever will try to stave off elimination in Game 2 tomorrow night in Indianapolis.
