Batesville boys tennis swept Franklin County 5-love. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the EIAC.
Shelbyville clipped Batesville 2-1 in boys soccer. Ronan Post scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs.
Batesville girls varsity and reserve soccer both fell to Lawrenceburg in shut out fashion. The Tigers won the varsity match, 2-nil. LHS took the JV match, 1-nil.
Milan volleyball swept Franklin County. The Indians claimed the varsity match, 25-23, 25-15, 25-17. In the JV match, the Wildcats fell to Milan, 26-24, 25-20, 15-9.
Batesville Middle School volleyball took two from North Decatur. It was the Bulldogs over the Chargers in the 7th grade match, 25-21, 25-17. The BMS 8th graders improved to 8-0 with a hard fought 25-24, 25-17, 15-5 win. North Decatur won the first set in the 8th grade contest before Batesville swept the final two sets. BMS will host Milan tonight, which is a change from the original schedule.
The Reds got an excellent start from Andrew Abbott and rallied late to beat the Padres 2-1 in San Diego in a game heard last night on WRBI. Abbott scattered five hits with one earned run over eight innings and got the win to improve to 9-6. Cincinnati trailed 1-0 before scoring two runs in the 8th on Elly De La Cruz single that scored TJ Friedl. Pinch hitter Miguel Andujar followed with another RBI hit to give the Reds the lead. Tony Santillan came on in the 9th and recorded his sixth save of the year. Cincinnati took two of the three games in the series. With the win, the Reds move into a tie with the San Francisco Giants and trail the New York Mets by two games for the final National League Wild Card spot with 16 games remaining. The Reds are off today before beginning a three-game series tomorrow night against The Athletics in West Sacramento.
Fans are urged to wear white on Sunday when the Indianapolis Colts take on the Denver Broncos inside Lucas Oil Stadium. It will be a “White Out” in which the Colts will don their white jerseys at home. Indianapolis is looking to go 2-0 to start a season for the first time since 2009. They are coming off a win over Miami last week. Linebacker Zaire Franklin told the media that despite their dominance last week, team has not reached its full potential yet.
The Indiana Fever are playing the waiting game to figure out who their opponent will be in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs. They finished their regular season on Tuesday and have had some extra time off, which Kelsey Mitchell says has been a good thing to take advantage of after a stressful last couple of weeks. Indiana finished the regular season with three straight wins. The WNBA Playoffs tipoff on Sunday.
The #8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on 16th ranked Texas A&M Saturday night in South Bend. The Irish beat the Aggies last year in College Station. Notre Dame is coming off a season-opening loss to Miami on August 31, and wide receiver Jaden Greathouse says their bye week gave them time to really regroup and readjust their preparation for the rest of the season. Kickoff on Saturday is at 7:30 p.m.
