IN Supreme Court to Hold Oral Argument at Hanover College

(Hanover, IN) – The Indiana Supreme Court will travel to Hanover College on Tuesday, September 30 to hold oral arguments in Ajaylan M. Shabazz v. State of Indiana (25S-CR-183), a criminal case concerning whether trial witness testimony by Zoom satisfies meeting witnesses face-to-face under the state’s Constitution.

The Court regularly holds oral arguments at the Statehouse in Indianapolis and occasionally schedules arguments outside the capital. Traveling oral arguments allow students, the press, and the public in other areas of the state the opportunity to see the work of the Court.

More than 700 students from 14 schools are scheduled to attend, including Jac-Cen-Del Jr./Sr. High, plus Milan and South Ripley high schools.

The argument will take place at 10 a.m. in Hanover College’s Collier Arena at 100 Scenic Drive in Hanover.

The 40-minute argument is open to the public.

Available seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested in attending will be required to enter through the east doors of the Horner Center and go through security.

Parking for guests is available in the lot to the north of the Horner Center.

The argument will be webcast live and archived on the Court’s website.

Collier Arena is accessible to those with disabilities, and accessible parking is available. Those who need special accommodations should contact Sarah.Kidwell@courts.in.gov.
