Oldenburg Academy boys soccer hosted the annual Twister Cup at Bill Gillespie Soccer Park on Saturday and went 1-1. The Twisters defeated Seton Catholic 6-2 in the first game, but fell to Shawe Memorial in the championship match 4-nil. The title game was a rematch of last year’s IHSAA regional semifinal won by OA.
Batesville boys soccer shut out Franklin County 8-0 on Saturday. The Bulldogs Simon Berkemeier, James Rowland and Oliver Camarena each found the back of the net twice.
Batesville girls golf finished 8th with a team score of 343 in the 18-team Center Grove Trojan Classic on Saturday. Ava South led the Bulldogs individually by shooting a 78. Other individual scores for BHS were Zoey Ahern, 85; Stella Maple and Alexis Gallagher each carded a 90; and Grace Saner shot a 105.
Batesville boys tennis finished second at Saturday’s New Castle Invitational. The Bulldog netters went 2-1 on the day.

The Reds beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 to salvage the series finale as heard yesterday on WRBI. Cincinnati still has not been swept this year. Brady Singer did not figure into the decision but he was brilliant on the mound. Singer gave up one run on one hit with nine strikeouts in 6 innings. Austin Hays had three hits and drove in the go ahead run for Cincinnati. Spencer Steer clubbed a three-run homer in the eighth inning to break it open. Graham Ashcraft got the win in relief to run his record to 8-5. Cincinnati moves to within game and a half of the final National League Wild Card spot with the win and the New York Mets loss on Sunday. The Reds head back to Los Angeles to start a three-game series tonight against the Dodgers. Hunter Greene gets the start for Cincinnati. He’s 5-3 with a 2.63 earned run average. The Dodgers counter with righthander Emmet Sheehan, who is 0-3 with a 4.22 ERA. Coverage begins at 9:40 on 103.9 FM.
The Minnesota Lynx topped the Indiana Fever 97-84 in WNBA action last night in Minneapolis. Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 26 points. It was the second of back-to-back losses to the Lynx. Minnesota won Friday night’s game in Indianapolis, 95-90. With Sunday’s loss, the Fever drops to 19-18 and will back at it tomorrow night at home against the Seattle Storm.
Christian Rasmussen took the checkered flag at yesterday’s IndyCar Milwaukee Mile 250. It’s Rasmussen’s first win on the circuit. Alex Palou finished second while defending Milwaukee Mile 250 champ Scott McLaughlin came in third. The final race of the season is next Sunday at Nashville, Tennessee.
The Indianapolis Colts closed out the 2025 preseason with a dominating 41-14 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday. Riley Leonard was the starting quarterback, while Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson did suit up for the game. Leonard was 15-of-20 for 189 yards and a touchdown. He and Jason Bean split the quarterback reps. The Colts open the regular season at home on September 7 against the Miami Dolphins.
Week One of the college football season is nearly here. The Purdue Boilermakers host the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday at Noon. The Indiana Hoosiers entertain Old Dominion Saturday afternoon at 2:30. And the Notre Dame Fighting Irish begins the year Sunday night at Miami of Florida.
