The Batesville Boys Tennis team kicked off the 2025 campaign on Saturday with 4-1 win at home over Richmond. The 1-0 Bulldogs host the Milan Indians tomorrow night.
Batesville girls golf finished third at the 16-team Franklin Invite on Saturday. The Bulldogs shot a 330 as a team. Individually, senior Ava South carded a one over par 73 to finish second among individual golfers. On Thursday, BHS topped Franklin County 143-194 at Brook Hill Golf Course. South took medalist honors with a two under par 33.
It was Batesville varsity volleyball over Shelbyville in three sets on Saturday at the Dawg Pound. Scores were 25-15, 25-19, 25-14. Batesville also took the JV contest. The Bulldogs knocked off the Golden Bears in two sets, 25-12, 25-16.
At the 30-team Valley Cross Invitational in Terre Haute on Saturday, the Batesville boys cross country team finished 26th while the BHS girls came in 10th.
Batesville Middle School Cross Country hosted the inaugural 10-team Bulldog Kickoff on Saturday. The BMS boys finished in fourth place with 99 points; the Bulldog girls came in second with 52.

The Reds rallied to knock off the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 in 10 innings at Great American Ball Park as heard yesterday on WRBI. With the win, the Reds salvage the final game of the series and snap the Brewers franchise-record 14-game winning streak. Austin Hays’ bases loaded single to leftfield in the bottom of the 10th won it for Cincinnati scored TJ Friedl with game-winning run. The Reds remain the only team in Major League Baseball that has not been swept this year. Cincinnati embarks on a nine-game, 10-day West Coast road trip with the first of three tonight in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels. Righthander Brady Singer gets the start for Cincinnati. The Angels counter with fellow righthander Victor Mederos. Coverage begins at 9:08 p.m.
The Reds designated outfielder Jake Fraley for assignment before yesterday’s game. Fraley was hitting .232 with six home runs and 23 RBIs this season, and saw his playing time significantly reduced with the move of Noelvi Marte to rightfield, and Gavin Lux and Austin Hays splitting time in left. Outfielder Will Benson was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding roster move…
The Reds also recalled righthanded pitcher Connor Phillips from Louisville and sent lefty Joe LaSorsa back to Triple-A; the team returned LHP Wade Miley from rehab assignment (left flexor strain), retroactive to Saturday.
The Indiana Fever went on the road and outlasted the Connecticut Sun 99-93 in overtime yesterday. Kelsey Mitchell scored 34 of her career-tying 38 points after halftime, and Lexie Hull drilled a corner 3-pointer with 45 seconds left to cap a rally from 21 points down. Sophie Cunningham left the game in the second quarter with a knee injury and did not return. The Fever improves to 19-16 and will be back on the court Friday against the Minnesota Lynx.
The Cincinnati Bengals visit Washington in NFL preseason action tonight. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.
NFL Network is reporting the Bengals are listening to trade offers for All Pro defensive end Trey Hendrickson. The team and Hendrickson remain at odds over a contract extension. Hendrickson has been staging a “hold-in” at Bengals training camp.
