All appeared to be well at Great American Ballpark last night with the Cincinnati Reds leading 4-2 through six innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers but two runs by LA tied the game in the seventh inning, setting up Will Smith’s heroics in the top of the ninth. The Dodgers walked away with a 5-4 victory over the Reds to take a second-straight game in the series. To make matters worse, former Red Alexis Diaz came on in relief to get the win on the mound. Jake Fraley and Noelvi Marte each homered for Cincinnati in the loss who is now on the brink of being swept for the first time this season. The two teams meet for game three of the series tonight. Coverage on WRBI begins at 6:40 with first pitch scheduled for 7:10.

The holdout is over … at least to an extent. Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro defensive end Trey Hendrickson will report to training camp today in the Queen City after refusing to appear for team workouts due to his ongoing contract negotiations this offseason. After missing the first week of camp, Hendrickson can now avoid any further absence which would have resulted in a $50,000 fine for each future day missed according to the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement. It has not been reported yet if Hendrickson will be in uniform and participate today. Bengals fans are now even more optimistic that a new contract will be signed prior to the start of the 2025 season.

Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter says he is looking for consistency from the quarterback spot his season. He told the media after practice on Tuesday that he feels he’s getting it from both Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson. Richardson finished nine-of-14 in 11-on-11 and four-of-five in seven-on-seven. Jones was eight-of-11 in 11-on-11 and a perfect four-for-four in seven-on-seven. As for the defense, they lost a player for the day. Jaylon Jones had to be carted off the field with a leg injury.

Caitlin Clark will miss her fifth-straight game tonight when the Indiana Fever host the Phoenix Mercury in WNBA action. The Fever come in with a 14-12 record while Phoenix at 16-9 boasts the third best record in the league. Indiana has won back-to-back games and three of its last five contests. Tipoff at Gainbridge Fieldhouse is at 7 p.m.

For new Purdue football coach Barry Odom, the challenge of rebuilding a football program from the ground up is a challenge he is diving headlong into. He says it in today’s college football environment, he works to make his players the best they can be, whether he has them for seven months or five years. The Boilermakers will open the college football season against Ball State on August 30th.

The Indianapolis Indians opened their series against the Cubs with a 5-3 win in Des Moines. Cam Devanney led the way at the dish after going two for three with a solo homer. Indianapolis has won three straight and will continue its six-game set against Iowa this afternoon.
