The Indiana Fever knocked off the team with the best record in the WNBA to win the Commissioner’s Cup Tuesday night. The Fever topped the Minnesota Lynx 74-59.
After trailing 20-12 at the end of the first quarter, the Fever turned things around in the second quarter when they outscored the Lynx 20-7 in the second period to lead 32-27 at halftime.
Indiana outscored the Lynx in the second half 42-32 to obtain the victory. The Fever won $500,000, which is the top prize for winning the Commissioner’s Cup. That amounts to approximately $30,000 per player.
Fever forward Natasha Howard led Indiana in scoring with 16 points and 12 rebounds. She was named the Commissioner’s Cup Most Valuable Player. She will take home $5,000 for winning that award.
Indiana was without guard Caitlin Clark. She missed the game with a groin injury.
Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aari McDonald all scored 12 points for Indiana while Boston also snagged 11 rebounds.
Alanna Smith scored 15 points to lead Minnesota in scoring.
