The Oklahoma City Thunder are NBA champions after beating the Indiana Pacers 103-91 in Game Seven of the NBA Finals as heard last night on WRBI. The Pacers were without Tyrese Haliburton after he went down with a leg injury in the 1st quarter. ESPN’s Lisa Salters reported that Haliburton’s father John said it was an Achilles injury, which would put his status for the 2025-26 season in jeopardy. Bennedict Mathurin led Indiana with 24 points and 13 rebounds. League MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tossed in a game-high 29 points and added 12 assists for the Thunder, and was named NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. It’s the Thunder’s first Larry O’Brien Trophy since the franchise relocated from Seattle to Oklahoma City. The team then known as the Seattle Supersonics won the NBA title in 1979.
The Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 at Busch Stadium in a game heard yesterday afternoon on the Sports Voice. With the win, Cincinnati avoids the series sweep and snaps its three-game losing streak. Andrew Abbott gave up one run on three hits while striking out three over seven innings to get the win and improve to 7-1 on the year. He also lowered his ERA to 1.79. After giving up a run in the 2nd inning, Abbott retired the next 18 Cardinal hitters he faced. Emilio Pagan came on in the ninth and notched his 18th save. The Reds return home tonight to face the reigning American League champion New York Yankees. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 103.9 FM.
Chase Burns, the 2nd overall pick in last year’s MLB Draft, will make his major league debut for the Reds when he starts against the Yankees tomorrow night. The 22-year-old Burns has dominated throughout his first pro season, posting a 1.77 ERA with 12.14 strikeouts per nine in 13 starts overall, as well as a 2.19 ERA in two starts since he was promoted to Triple-A Louisville on June 9.
The Reds made a series of roster moves Sunday. The team recalled OF Rece Hinds from TripleA-Louisville; designated IF/OF Garrett Hampson for assignment; recalled RHP Yosver Zulueta from Louisville; optioned RHP Chase Petty to Louisville following Saturday’s game, and returned INF Jeimer Candelario (lumbar spine strain) from rehab assignment, retroactive to Saturday.
Alex Palou took the checkered flag at IndyCar’s Road America race in Wisconsin yesterday. It’s Palou sixth win out of nine races so far this year on the circuit. He becomes the first driver since AJ Foyt in 1975 to win six of the first nine races of an IndyCar season.
The Indiana Fever led for most of their game against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, but could not hold onto the lead. They lost 89-81 despite Caitlin Clark’s double-double performance of 19 points and 10 assists. Aliyah Boston had a big game as well, scoring 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Indiana is 6-and-7 and will continue a west coast trip on Tuesday against Seattle.
