(Greensburg, IN) – The Decatur County Health Department, in partnership with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), is proud to announce a free ATV Safety Course aimed at educating youth and adults on the safe and responsible operation of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
The event will take place on Monday, June 23, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Decatur County Health Department, 315 S. Ireland Street in Greensburg. .
With ATV-related accidents on the rise across Indiana, this hands-on safety course is a timely and essential program for families who enjoy outdoor recreation.
Designed for riders ages 8 and up, the course will cover crucial topics including protective gear, trail etiquette, emergency response, and state regulations.
“Our goal is to reduce injuries and save lives by equipping riders with the knowledge and skills they need to operate ATVs safely,” said Amanda Bates, Public Health Preparedness Coordinator with the Decatur County Health Department. “Partnering with IDNR gives us access to certified instructors and comprehensive safety resources.”
Instructors from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will lead the training in practical classroom instruction. Participants will learn the importance of wearing helmets, understanding vehicle limitations, and respecting the environment.
“ATVs can be a great way to enjoy Indiana’s outdoors, but they are powerful machines that require training and responsibility,” said Sean Durbin, Director of Decatur County Health Department. “This course provides a strong foundation for safe riding practices.”
Registration is free but required, as space is limited. Parents or guardians must accompany riders under 18. All participants will receive a certificate of completion and a free helmet, gloves and goggles, courtesy of the Decatur County Health Department.
