South Dearborn outslugged host Batesville 18-15 in the opener of the Class 3A softball sectional last night as heard on WRBI.  The Bulldogs were led at the plate by Grace Copley, who had 2 hits and an RBI; Cora Roth had 3 hits, scored 3 runs and drove in 2, and Molly Abel collected 3 hits and an RBI. The Knights take on Franklin County in the semifinal round this evening…

In the nightcap, Greensburg got past Lawrenceburg 2-0. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 6th when the Pirates plated the game’s only runs. Greensburg’s Harper Adams pitched 7 innings, gave up 2 hits, no runs, struck out 17 Tigers, walked none and set down the final 13 batters in a row to end the game.  At the dish for the Pirates, Kamryn Haas doubled and drove in a run, while Emma McQueen added a single and an RBI. Greensburg takes on Jennings County in the second semifinal this evening.

At the 1A sectional at Rising Sun, Hauser eliminated Oldenburg Academy 7-2; the host Shiners run-ruled Jac-Cen-Del 14-0, and Milan blanked Trinity Lutheran 8-0.

Coming up this evening, host East Central plays Whiteland in 4A action. WRBI coverage begins at 6:15.

North Decatur on Saturday won the Mid Hoosier Conference golf tournament for the fifth consecutive year. The Chargers shot a 337, followed by second place Hauser (348); Southwestern (Shelby) was third (404), and Morristown came in fourth (438). North Decatur’s Owen Eldridge, Scott Morford and Cooper Parmer earned All-Conference honors.

The Reds beat the Royals 7-4 in the series opener yesterday in Kansas City. Tyler Stephenson went 3 for 5 with a home run and three runs batted in. Nick Martinez got the win to improve to 3-5. Former Red Michael Lorenzen took the loss for KC. Game two of the series is tonight. Former Royal Brady Singer starts for the Reds. First pitch at 7:40.

The Pacers take on the New York Knicks in Game Four of the Eastern Conference finals tonight in downtown Indianapolis. Indiana leads the series two games to one. We’ll join the game in progress following softball sectional coverage.

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark will be sidelined for two weeks with a strained quadricep. Clark is expected to miss at least four games.

Indy 500 runner up Marcus Ericcson and two other drivers were sent to the back of the field after it was determined cars driven by Ericcson, Kyle Kirkwood and Callum Illot failed the post-race inspection. Erricson, Kirkwood, and Illot now finish 31st, 32nd and 33rd, respectively.
