(Brookville, IN) – A Franklin County man was sentenced Monday to 100 years in prison following his conviction on two Attempted Murder charges and other counts.
Special Judge Brian Hill of Rush County handed down the sentence to Gregory Guilfoyle, who was found guilty but mentally in the shooting and wounding of his wife Hannah and Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy Arin Bowers in December 2022.
Guilfoyle received 38 years for each of the two counts of Attempted Murder, with the rest of the hundred years for six other charges, including Neglect of a Dependent.
Hannah was seriously injured but survived.
Guilfoyle was paralyzed in the shootout with Deputy Bowers at State Road 1 and U.S. 52 near Cedar Grove.
Deputy Bowers was struck in his protective vest and was not seriously hurt.
Sentencing was previously delayed twice while Guilfoyle underwent medical treatment.
After sentencing, body cam video of the shootout on the snowy night was released. It shows Guilfoyle holding his young daughter in his arms while walking along the road. He opened fire on Bowers from close range.
Somehow, Bowers was only struck in the protective vest and was able to return fire, miss the little girl entirely, and hit Guilfoyle.
The video shows immediately after the shots, the deputy grabbed the young girl, who was not injured.
Defense attorneys say they plan to appeal Guilfoyle’s conviction and sentence.
