Batesville doubled up East Central 8-4 in varsity baseball last evening. Carson Schneider clubbed a solo home run, doubled and singled to lead the Bulldog offense. On the mound, Schneider gave up four hits, three runs – two earned – struck out two and walked two over 3 2/3 innings of work and was the winning the pitcher. Batesville improves to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the EIAC…In the JV contest, East Central topped Batesville 13-5. The Trojans banged out 13 hits.
Oldenburg Academy run ruled Shawe Memorial 18-0 in 5 innings. The Twisters’ Jacob Stenger gave up 1 hit and struck out 11 Hilltoppers.
In varsity softball, it was Hauser over North Decatur 13-4…And South Dearborn bested Jac-Cen-Del 15-3 in 5 innings. The Knights had 14 hits.
The Seattle Mariners beat the Reds 11-7 in 10 innings yesterday at Great American Ball Park in a game heard on WRBI. The Reds pitching and defense struggled, giving up 13 hits and committing four errors. Seattle takes two of the three games in the series. The Reds begin a three game weekend series tonight in Baltimore against the Orioles. Andrew Abbott gets the start for Cincinnati. He’ll be opposed by fellow lefthander Cade Povich. The Reds placed first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation. The team recalled infielder Noelvi Marte from Triple-A Louisville.
Lee Corso will retire from his role on ESPN’s College Game Day and make his final pre-game head gear pick on August 30, which is Week 1 of the 2025 college football season. The former Indiana Hoosiers, Louisville and Northern Illinois head coach has been with the network for 38 years. Corso turns 90 in August and has been an analyst on College Game Day since it debuted in 1987.
