A Versailles man was arrested after police say he fled the scene of a motorcycle accident that caused two injuries in Osgood.
Ripley County Deputies responded to the scene of the accident on Buckeye Street, near the intersection of S.R. 350 in Osgood around 5:20 p.m. Saturday.
Police say 68-year-old Chester Matney, of Rushville, was operating a 2003 Honda motorcycle when it was struck from the rear end by a white minivan, ejecting both Matney and a passenger.
Matney was rushed to Margaret Mary Health and later airlifted to University of Cincinnati Hospital for treatment of internal injuries, broken leg, wrist and shoulder, and lacerations received from the accident.
His passenger, Kathy Henry, of Dillsboro, was airlifted from the scene to University of Cincinnati Hospital for treatment of internal injuries, head injury, facial fractures, and a broken shoulder and ribs.
Police say Matney and Henry were not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The white minivan believed to be involved in the accident was no where to be seen, according to responding deputies.
Police searched for the vehicle for nearly six hours before they say they located it in Versailles around 11:22 p.m.
The investigation revealed that Cory Barnes, 21, of Versailles, was operating the white Dodge Caravan that rear ended the motorcycle and fled the scene, officers said.
Barnes was arrested and booked into the Ripley County Jail on preliminary charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Injury (Class D Felony) and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class D Felony).
Bond was set at $1050.
