Greensburg Sets This Year’s Public Safety Cookout Schedule

(Greensburg, IN) – This year’s City of Greensburg Public Safety Community Cookouts will have an interesting mix.

There will be three cookouts this year, including National Night Out in August.

The city will also partner with Greensburg High School for a distracted driving demonstration on April 24, plus an appearance at the Pirates’ October 17 home football game.

Mayor Joshua Marsh says the idea behind the cookouts is for the public to engage with first responders in a positive way.

“Also, it has an educational component to it. We want people to know about what our public safety does, how they can help and how they can be involved,” Marsh said. “So we’re doing a little bit more outreach to Greensburg Community High School (GCHS) at the beginning of the season and at the end of the season, and also to the public in those spaces, as well.”

Here is this year’s schedule:

  • Thursday, April 24 – GCHS Distracted Driving Demonstration 10:15 a.m.
  • Thursday, May 8 – Maureen Road between E. Tara Street and E. Israel Street, 6-8 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 5 – N. East Street between 5th Street and Jorim Drive, 6-8 p.m.
  • July – Decatur County Fair (public safety booth).
  • Thursday, August 14 – National Night Out at North Park, 5-8 p.m.
  • September – Tree City Fall Festival (public safety booth).
  • Friday, October 17 – GCHS Home Football Game

The Public Safety Community Cookout series was launched in 2021.

The free events are put on by the City of Greensburg and its police and fire departments.
