Tornadoes Touch Down Across Indiana

(Statewide) – The National Weather Service says there were some EF-2 tornadoes that fell in the range of speed between 111 to 135 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service says, one tornado was in a few miles west of Somerville, Indiana, which is in Gibson County. Damage occurred with that tornado with winds of 115 miles per hour.

Another tornado damaged parts of Oakland City, Indiana, which is also in Gibson County. The National Weather Service says that tornado consisted of winds of 117 miles per hour.

Another tornado touched down in Algiers, Indiana, which is in Pike County. The National Weather Service says that tornado consisted of damaging winds of 120 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service says some tornadoes hit parts of Lake County, which is on Indiana’s northwest side, Saturday night. Cedar Lake was affected by an EF-1 tornado, and Schererville and Merrillville were affected by EF-0 tornadoes.

Jason Puma is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. He says there were three other tornadoes in Indiana. One tornado was in Jackson County, one was in Daviess County, and another one was in Parke County.

“Three of those tornadoes were EF-1 with estimated speeds of 105 to 110 miles per hour,” Puma says. “Several of those storms, particularly the one in Jackson County, damaged a home,” Puma says.

Around 26,000 people lost power in their homes across the state Saturday morning.
