Weather permitting, the girls portion of the Ripley County Tournament is scheduled to tip off tonight at Milan. Jac-Cen-Del plays Batesville in game one at 6 followed by the host Indians facing South Ripley. WRBI coverage begins at 5:30.

In girls hoops last night, Franklin County went on the road and knocked off Rushville. 59-35.

North Decatur’s home JV and varsity and girls games last night against South Decatur were postponed until Saturday, January 18. The JV tipoff will be at 11 a.m. followed by the varsity contest around 12:30. North Decatur’s C-team game against Oldenburg was also postponed. A makeup date hasn’t been announced.
A late field goal by Mitch Jeter lifted the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the Penn State Nittany Lions 27-24 last night in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Orange Bowl in Miami. The 14-1 Irish will play for its first national championship since 1988 on January 20 against the winner of tonight’s other semifinal between Ohio State and Texas. Kickoff between the Buckeyes and Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl Classic in Arlington Texas is 7:30.
In college basketball, Purdue beat Rutgers 68-50 last night in New Jersey. The  Boilermakers now won four games in a row and will return to Mackey Arena on Sunday when they host Nebraska.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for regular-season games played in December and January. In Cincinnati’s six games played since December 1, Burrow completed 186 of 244 passes for 1,890 yards and 16 touchdowns with five interceptions, while leading the team to a 5-1 record.

NFL Media is reporting the Colts are expected to interview Lou Anarumo and Steve Wilks for the vacant defensive coordinator position. Anarumo was fired by the Bengals this week after six seasons with the team in the same role. Wilks was the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator when they went to Super Bowl 58, and is a former head coach with the Arizona Cardinals. The Colts are looking for a new defensive coordinator after parting ways with Gus Bradley.

The Reds avoided arbitration with eight players yesterday. The team signed pitchers Alexis Díaz, Nick Lodolo, Sam Moll, and Brady Singer, outfielder Jake Fraley, infielder Gavin Lux, and catchers Tyler Stephenson and Jose Trevino to one-year-contracts. 

The Pacers entertain the Golden State Warriors tonight. Tipoff is at 7.
