Area Continues Recovery From Winter Storm

(Southeastern IN) – The area continues to dig out from the first major snow storm of the year.

Snow started falling on Sunday and continued into yesterday, with amounts in the double digits in a number of places.

Eleven inches were reported in the Versailles area, while other locations saw anywhere from six-and-a-half to 10-plus inches of snow.

Road crews have been working 12 hours shifts trying to clear the roads while dealing with drifts and blowing snow.

Ripley, Decatur and Franklin counties remained under Red Warning advisories as of Tuesday morning.

Dearborn County was still under an Orange Watch travel advisory, and a number of residents have been wondering why the county didn’t go to the Red Warning status along with other surrounding counties at the height of the storm.

Because the snow stopped following in mid-afternoon, the Winter Storm Warning was canceled yesterday several hours before it was set to expire.
