(Metamora, IN) – Repairs will be made to the historic Duck Creek Aqueduct in Metamora, which was damaged during last week’s storms.
Several days of heavy rain caused flooding along Duck Creek, and a large tree that washed down the water way crashed into the aqueduct’s base (pictured).
Indiana DNR helped remove the tree and the Whitewater Canal State Historic Site team completed an initial damage assessment.
Water is being diverted from the aqueduct and into Duck Creek, which will allow for a temporary fix to the hole.
They are also planning for long-term repairs to be completed next year.
The aqueduct was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014 and is the only one of its kind left in the United States.
