The precipitation has ended across the area but many roads remain covered with ice and snow. It forced schools to close and impacted the Monday morning drive to work.
Residents are encouraged to keep supplies to stay warm as the combination of cold temperatures and wind produce wind chills between zero and ten below.
Ripley and Dearborn counties are currently on an advisory status which means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation.
Franklin and Dearborn counties are on a watch, meaning essential travel is recommended.
Winter weather and hazardous roads force some area residents to put in double time.
Kurtz Lawn Care of Batesville has been clearing snow from parking lots around the area since the early morning hours Monday.
“It always depends on what time the snow comes into the area,” said Travis Kurtz. “If the snow doesn’t stop until 3 in the morning that’s when we head out.”
INDOT road crews and county highway departments have also been running routes throughout Sunday and Monday.
The weather was vastly different two years ago this week. On Friday, March 2, 2012 an EF-3 tornado touched down on Holton and claimed three lives. The community banded together and helped the town recover and rebuild.
