It’s Eclipse Day

(Southeastern IN) – Southeastern Indiana and the rest of the state have rolled out the red carpet for thousands of out-of-state guests who are here to watch this afternoon’s total solar eclipse.

All of Decatur and Franklin counties will be in the path of totality, while most of Ripley and Dearborn counties will also be covered in darkness.

The partial phase begins in Greensburg at 1:50 p.m., with totality starting at 3:06 p.m. and lasting three minutes and 32 seconds.

Batesville and Brookville will see the start of the partial phase at 1:51 p.m., with totality starting at 3:07 p.m. and lasting three minutes and two seconds in Batesville and three minutes, four seconds in Brookville.

This will be the first solar eclipse to cross the  southern half of Indiana since 2017 and the last until August 2044.

In addition, all area schools are closed today, with some on e-Learning.

Local government offices are either closed or operating on abbreviated hours, and trash collection is delayed by one day in a number of communities.
