(Batesville, IN) – The Batesville Area Ministerial Food Pantry just completed an expansion project to increase food storage for frozen and refrigerated foods.
The food pantry has seen a 25% increase in households utilizing the food pantry this year. To meet this increase in capacity and to maintain proper food temperatures, two commercial freezers and one refrigeration unit were purchased with the assistance of several area organizations.
The food pantry received grants from the Rising Sun Community Foundation, the 2023 Hillenbrand Partnership with Possibility Grant, United Way of Ripley and Franklin Counties, Gleaner’s Food Bank, and the support of the Ripley County Community Foundation to make this project possible. The purchase of the units was through Gehring’s to support our local businesses.
Paul Roell, food pantry co-coordinator, stated “This is a significant improvement for our food pantry. The new units have glass doors so that clients can see what we have available without opening the door multiple times. We are very grateful to all the organizations that assisted us with this project.”
The Batesville Food Pantry is a 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to serving citizens who reside within the Batesville Community School Corporation, who for a variety of reasons, have come upon hard times and do not have an income that is adequate to provide food for themselves and their family members.
