H.S. softball recaps from April 1-2

The following are varsity (unless noted otherwise) softball recaps from April 1-2.  There may be updates, so please check back.

South Decatur defeated Indiana Deaf 14-4.  Molly Eden, Lakota Henry and Madison Mikulec all had a pair of hits.  Eden and Loryn Pate both plated two runs.  Pate also earned a complete game win in the circle with seven strikeouts against only one hit and one earned run.

Batesville fell 14-3 to Rising Sun. In the loss, Samantha Kessens and Emma Belter both had two hits.  Kessens drove in two runs. Belter had one RBI.  Sarah Ripperger doubled and scored.

South Dearborn split two games in a round robin.  The Knights beat Cambridge City in the opener 11-4.  SD racked up 14 hits with Cory Lee highlighting the hit parade with a  two-run homer.  Kori Cornett, Kyra Labazzo and Riley Lagaly combined in the pitching effort.

In game two against Taylor, Ohio, the Knights trailed 3-nothing heading into the bottom of the seventh and fell short 3-2.  Chayse Hoskins legged out an inside the park home run with a runner aboard to get the Aurora gals within one.  The tying run was later left stranded at second.

Switzerland County got by Lawrenceburg 5-4.  Brooklyn Couch homered twice and double once in the loss for the Tigers.

Connersville swept Oldenburg in a double header. For the first time in eight years, the Twisters played in the Holy Family Cemetery.  Past season OA home games have been played at The Plex in Batesville.

In game one, the Spartans scored eight times in the first inning and went on to post a 14-0 victory.   Carmen Ruble, McKenna Lucas, Rayleigh Bresher, Sara Ruble, Paige Dunaway, Shelby Wolski and Baylie Spurlock all had multiple hits with Ruble leading the way with three.  Jade Green and Kindred Conley combined on a five-inning no hitter.

The second game also ended in five as CHS beat OA 15-0. Lucas, Carmen Ruble, Green, Abby Badore and Dunaway all had multiple hits.  Brock and Wolski combined on the shutout pitching performance.

North Decatur split two games in a round robin.

The Chargers defeated Southwestern Hanover 15-4 thanks in part to a big eight-run fourth inning.  Keesha Crosland hit a two-run homer while she along with Macy Scudder, Kayln Muckerhide and Kennedy Stier had two-hit games.  Crosland was the starting and winning pitcher for ND going three innings.  She gave up just one run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

For the Rebels, Chloey Leach and Morgan Mahoney both had two hits.  Leach also had a couple of RBI.  Ashley Fulton took the loss in the circle.

In North Decatur’s second game, the Chargers fell to Brownstown Central 6-4 in nine innings.  The North’s Kacie Ogden had two hits.  Crosland pitched a complete game in the loss.

Southwestern was shutout by Brownstown Central in the Rebels second game, 12-0.  Fulton had two hits and, again was the pitcher of record for the ladies from Hanover.

Jac-Cen-Del lost its season opener 6-2 at Trinity Lutheran.  Bailey Groth and Regan Richter both had two hits for the Eagles.  Groth collected one RBI.  Savannah James pitched 1-2/3 innings of one hit, scoreless relief.

Franklin County crushed Hagerstown 17-0 in five innings.  The Wildcats had 17 hits.  Pitcher KK Ferman threw a one hitter with 11 strikeouts and her defense was errorless.

Among the big bats for the Cats, Kassidy Schell had three hits.  Bree Bischoff, Kensee Ferman, KK Ferman and Maci Lake all had two hits.  KK knocked in three runs while Lake and Schell batted in two each.  Annie Hoff and Tiffany Billman both doubled with a ribbie.

Franklin County’s JV swept a double header against Whiteland.  In the 7-2 game one final, Kendal Cain was the winning pitcher.  Tiffany Billman booked a couple of hits and an RBI.  Bella Lee also knocked in a run on a hit.

Game two was a 16-3 decision for the Cat reserves.  Lee pitched the win in this one and also drove in two runs.  Lillie Graf singled and tripled with a ribbie. Annie Hoff singled and doubled.  Olivia Bennett tripled with two RBI while Bailey Kaiser had a three base hit which produced a run.
