After suffering their first loss of the season to Lawrenceburg Monday following a three-week layoff, Greensburg bounced back Tuesday. The Pirates beat county rival North Decatur at home 25-10, 25-19 and 25-23.
“We were a much better team in this match,” said Greensburg coach June Rigney. “We moved quicker, were better blockers, all-around more aggressive and played with more confidence.”
Rigney noted effective serving came from Jenna Foster who was 19-19 with 3 aces and Abigail Hoeing was 20-20. At the net, the Pirates utilized multiple hitters. Josie Nobbe led with 12 kills while Ella Chapman and Carlee Adams both had 8.
“Greensburg’s front row connected to put down 8 blocks for points and many hits were touched by our block which is instrumental in our defense,” said Rigney. “We are now 10-1.”
North Decatur coach Kylie Ricke said, “Our girls were slow to get rolling and let Greensburg build momentum before they finally brought in some energy and intensity into the game. It was just a little too late.”
For the Chargers, Carol Stapp led with 8 kills, Madelyn Bohman added 7 and Sami Luttel contributed with 4. Caroline Kennelly brought in 5 aces.
Greensburg won the JV match 2-1 but scores were not reported.
Ricke reported her JV Chargers played well together as a team but too many errors led to a loss in three. Ally Whitaker led the ND JV in kills with 5, followed by Sydney Rohls with 3 and then Kelsey Haley and Skyla Wade both with 2. Sofia Gonzalez and Kelsey Haley both contributed 1 ace.
We thank coaches Rigney and Ricke for the information.
