Officer facing Domestic Battery charge in Ripley County placed on leave

MADISON, IN — A Madison police officer who is facing a Domestic Battery charge in Ripley County has been on administrative leave from the department since the alleged incident was reported to Indiana State Police last month.

Thirty-six-year-old Brian Ashcraft is accused of pushing his live-in girlfriend, making threats, and grabbing the woman’s face during an altercation the weekend of July 10 and 11 at the home they shared in Versailles.

The woman reported the alleged incident to Indiana State Police on July 11.

Madison Police Chief John Wallace told WRBI News that Brian Ashcraft will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.

After that, Chief Wallace says the City of Madison’s Police Merit Board will decide whether or not he continues his employment with the department.

Ashcraft has been on the force for three years.
