Shed and barn fire causes havoc for local fire departments

location of the fire

Osgood, IN — The Millhousen Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched by Decatur County Communications to a report of a shed fire around 3 am Tuesday morning on Brownstown Road. Due to the location, the Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department was also dispatched to provide mutual aid. When crews arrived on the scene they found a fully engulfed shed fire as well as fire to the adjacent pole barn. Crews were able to control the fire and remained on scene for nearly 2 hours according to Fire Chief Matt Stone.

Ripley County EMS also assisted at this scene.

Around 6 am, Ripley County Communications dispatched the Napoleon firemen back to the scene for a rekindle. Units responded back to the fire ground to find the above mentioned 50’ x 60’ pole structure fully engulfed in flames. Units again initiated an aggressive fire attack and were able to control the blaze within 20 minutes of arrival. Several factors within the second response made the fire attack difficult and prolonged the overhaul of the structure.

Mutual aid was provided at the second scene by the Millhousen Volunteer Fire Department, Letts Volunteer Fire Department, Osgood Volunteer Fire Department, and Ripley County EMS.
