Derek Giltner

Derek Giltner, 27 years old of Brookville, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2020. An East Central High School 2011 graduate, Derek was a vibrant young man who loved to play and have a good time. Growing up he enjoyed playing football, baseball, and track and, in high school, focused on soccer. His soccer talents took him to Holland to play in the Friendship games. He loved to be outside hunting and fishing or riding dirt bikes and quads about anywhere he could get away with it. Derek shared a love of music with his dad, Rick, and enjoyed watching his dad’s band play around town. They loved to go to concerts together and saw Alice Cooper, Motley Crew and Cheap Trick just to name a few. He loved making silly videos with his brother Jake. He thoroughly enjoyed scaring people and would patiently wait for hours for the perfect moment to grab and scare the heck out of someone. He was very specific about the treats he wanted and always made sure his mom had them on every grocery list…Flamin’ Hot Doritos, Oreos, cereal, and peanut butter & jelly snacks could always be found on that list. Another favorite that couldn’t be found at the grocery store was his cousin Hannah’s famous chocolate peanut butter milkshakes. He made going to the Cyclones game for his birthday a tradition. He rooted for the Green Bay Packers. He would help others in an instant. But his biggest love was for his nieces, River & Reign. He was the perfect uncle that would take them fishing, play with them in the creek, pick on them, and, of course, wrestle with them.
Derek will be deeply missed by his parents Pat & Rick of Brookville, brothers Jake of Aurora, Ryan of Brookville, and Aaron of Brookville; his grandparents Cliff & Suzanne Giltner of Bright and Rene Fette of New Alsace; his nieces River & Reign Giltner and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Derek is preceded in death by his grandpa Ray Fette and great-grandma Lucille Miller.
Visitation for Derek will be on Sunday, May 17, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 18 at 10:00am at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home followed immediately by burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery, All Saints Parish, in New Alsace.
