Great win, ladies!

From Coach Debbie Gregg: East Central JV lost to BAtesville AT Batesville on 9/10 with scores of 25-16, 19-25, and 15-12. We started the night off slow and came alive more in set 2. We had too many ups and downs and errors to be able to take the match from the Bulldogs. Jessie Stenger had a great night hitting going 14/17 with 10 kills and Ella Fledderlman went 10/12 with 5 kills.Casey House went 11/11 serving with 3 aces, Hope Fox 14/16 with 2 Aces Faith Fox 9/9 with 1 Aces, and Allison Huismann 13/15 with 1 Ace.  Allison Huismann was 31/31 setting with 9 assists and Ella Fledderman went 21/21 with 6 assists. For Digs, we had Faith Fox go 8/10 and Casey House 7/9. The JV team’s record is now 13-4. They travel to Lawrence North on Saturday for a tournament.

In the Varsity match, EC poked the sleeping bear..  We started off a bit slow , as usual, but then grew in confidence and composure.  I guess it was simply a pride an knowledge thing.  These girls all play club ball together and that brought out the next level we had been looking for.  Having friends on the other side of the net puts more on the table.  So after talking them down form the beating int eh first set, we settled into a swagger.  Sure the girls faltered a bit, but by the end of the night they were playing top notch HS volleyball, head to head, with one of the best teams around.  High risk/high reward was the key, we had to be willing to make the high risk error to keep EC out of system more.  What the girls found out is that they are capable of being that aggressive, without error.  While the score tells us there was a clear winner in the match, I feel we have alot to be proud of…  Last time we met they thumped us pretty well.  This time we nearly pushed them to five sets, and girls were commenting, “what if we win.”

EC wins:  25-13, 25-16, 24-26, 25-21.

The Freshmen team will travel to New Palestine for the Dragon invitational on Saturday, while the Varsity will be going to Franklin Community for a nine team tourney.

ECVB traveled to Batesville on Monday. Both the freshman and varsity teams came out victorious, while JV lost a hard fought battle.

In set one and most of set two we did exactly what we planned to do. We served aggressively, kept them out of system, and then terminated on offense. We looked really refreshed after having a couple days off. Toward the end of set two, we started to fall apart, making careless mistakes. It didn’t cost us much in set two because we had such a big lead, but it definitely carried over into set three. We did a good job at coming back after being down, but we weren’t mentally strong enough to finish. It took us awhile in set four to get going, but we made a few less errors than Batesville at the end of the game to finish the deal. I said it after the first time we played, and I’ll say it again…Batesville has a ton of talent, they just haven’t quite figured out how to put a match together yet. But they are better than they were a few weeks ago, and that trend should continue. Props to them for making us earn the win and not quitting after the first two.

Varsity is now 16-1 on the season and 9-0 in the EIAC.

Next up: Ben Davis Invite on Saturday.
