Ripley County Basketball Hall Of Famer Randy Combs Returns To The Indians As Head Coach

Randy Combs is returning to the sidelines to lead the Milan Indian Boys’ Basketball program once again.

Combs previously led the program for 14 seasons from 1995-2008 during which time the Indians claimed 4 ORVC Conference titles, 3 Sectional titles and 2 Regional Titles.  The veteran coach was named the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association District Coach of the Year in 2000 and was inducted into the Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.

Combs grew up in Vincennes, Indiana where he played for the Alices and was a member of the 1981 State Basketball Champions under Hall of Fame Coach Gunner Wyman.  A graduate of Wabash College, he played both football and basketball for the Little Giants before beginning his coaching career at Southmont High School.  After a five year coaching stint there he served as the Varsity Assistant at Greenfield-Central High School for Cliff Hawkins and Hall of Fame Coach Larry Angle for six seasons before becoming the Head Coach for the Indians.  Combs was a long time football assistant for the Indians before stepping aside after the 2015 season, but plans to return as well to that position this fall.

Coach Combs stated “The Milan Basketball program has always been a big part of our lives.  We have stayed active in the program over the course of the last ten years by working in the feeder program.  The efforts of Coach Blankinship and his staff have made this an opportunity that was too good to pass up when it became available again.  I always envisioned getting back into head coaching when I stepped out 10 years ago so I didn’t hesitate when the opportunity presented itself.”

Combs resides in Milan with his wife Lisa, and his son Cameron and daughter, Marisa.
