Carole Jean Schuler, of Batesville, Indiana (formerly of Dover, Indiana) passed peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at the age of 83. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a devoted family and many friends.
She leaves her loving daughters, Debbie Lecher of Batesville and Dawn (Chris) Merkel of Delaware, Indiana. She also leaves her grand-daughter Crystal (Josh) Hannebaum of Peppertown and one grandson Kenny Lecher of Batesville. She leaves one great-grand-child Malia Hannebaum.
She leaves behind her brother Keith Mergenthal of Bath, IN, and her sister Alice (Butch) Seals of Liberty, IN.
Carole was preceded in death by her husband Kenny Schuler, her parents Lester and Mildred Mergenthal, her sisters Pam Getz and Ellen Simpson, and her brother Kenny Mergenthal.
Carole was a member of the Home-Ec Club in Dover for many years and an avid bingo player joining in a senior citizen group that played bingo in New Alsace every month. She also sold Avon for 25-30 years.
Those who knew her loved her. She lived a long happy life filled with adventure and travel. She was always the first to pack her bags to go on a trip. Throughout her life she traveled to 49 of the 50 states and managed to travel out of the country as well. Whether it be a bus trip, plane ride, or just a road trip—she loved trying new things and getting out. Of course, she never knew a stranger and loved meeting new people in her travels.
Her favorite hobbies included bingo, word search puzzles, game show network, and cards. She would spend hours watching her game shows including Chain Reaction, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune, all while searching for words in her puzzle books. When it came to cards she was such a sore winner—when she was winning she would laugh at every turn and say, “I just can’t believe I’m beating you.”
She was a one of a kind woman who was always laughing and smiling. She often went out with friends for lunch and most times would end up chit-chatting for hours after they ate. She enjoyed swim class at the local YMCA, even though she never learned how to actually swim. Her favorite restaurants included Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, and a local favorite, Snikkers and Peanuts—she always loved their lunch specials and a slice of homemade pie.
Life will not be the same without this beautiful soul in the world, but heaven is a lot better with her in it.

Visitation from 1-4 PM Sunday, May 13 at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home with funeral services at 4 and a meal following.
