Anthony L. Scheidler, 95, of Millhousen, died November 15, 2017, at his home. He was the son of Paul C. and Clara (Herbert) Scheidler, born November 13, 1922, near Millhousen, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Millhousen. Anthony was a farmer most of his life, and also had worked as a brick mason
for Bruns-Gutzwiller Construction. He served his country in the Army as a guard patrolman during the Japanese occupation. As an eighth grader, he participated in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., finishing fourth. Anthony was a baseball fan, and from many accounts, was a very good player. It was a regret that he never played
in the major leagues. He was fortunate to meet Ted Williams, probably his favorite player, when Ted played in an exhibition game in Indianapolis. He played the fiddle at barn dances with his brother and sister, Maurice and (Martha) Sr. Janice.
Anthony married Rosemary Wenning on August 19, 1953, in Greensburg, and she survives. He is also survived by 5 sons: Michael (Dr. Sharon Calhoon), Greentown, IN,
Daniel (Anita), Greensburg, Patrick (Tina), Fortville, IN, Dale, Muncie, IN, and James (Jeanine), Westport; and 4 daughters: Ann Hermesch, Osgood, Martha (Dr. Michael) Craig, Lima, OH, Karen (Kent) Hewitt, Aiken, SC, and Julia (Tom) Bleck, Grand Blanc, MI; 18 grandchildren, 2 step-granddaughters, and 3 great-granddaughters. He is also survived by one sister, Sister Janice Scheidler, OSF, Oldenburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Sister Jonette Scheidler, and 4 brothers, Norbert, Urban, Paul, and Maurice, a son-in-law, Doug Hermesch, one grandson, Douglas Michael Hermesch.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Church in
Millhousen on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Bill Turner officiating, with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at
the church on Saturday from 9 to 10:00 a.m., a Rosary
being prayed at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, the Millhousen Volunteer Fire Department, or to the Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
