INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — State lawmakers honored local Special Olympic gold medalist, Chris Perdue, with a House Concurrent resolution on Thursday (4/6) at the Statehouse.
State Representative Randy Frye (R-Greensburg), State Representative Randy Lyness (R-West Harrison) and State Senator Chip Perfect (R-Lawrenceburg) led efforts to recognize Perdue for winning a gold medal in the snowboard advanced giant slalom and placing fifth in the Super G event.
Perdue is a student at South Ripley Junior-Senior High School and helps raise awareness and funds for the Ripley, Ohio, and Dearborn counties Special Olympics of Indiana.
According to Frye, more than 3,000 athletes from 110 nations competed in nine Olympic-type sports at the 2017 World Winter Games of Special Olympics held in Schladming, Austria.
“I feel very fortunate to have Chris as a member of our community,” Perfect said. “He is a wonderful example of what hard work and determination can accomplish. It’s not every day that you get to be in the company of someone who is the best in the world at what they do, and I was very grateful to have him join me before the Senate.”
