Roderick Larry Bailey, 88

uncle-obitRoderick Larry Bailey, 88, born July 17, 1928, with God’s grace exchanged his earthly life for one of immortality Sept. 22, 2016.

A 1946 graduate of St. Paul High School, Rod was a devout Christian, farmer, rural mail carrier, historian, humorist, Mason and lifelong resident of Decatur County.

Rod married his sweetheart, Mary Louise (Lee), on May 11, 1947. Theirs was a love proven to have lasted a lifetime. Together they successfully raised four grateful children on the Tlinkatonda family homestead.

Rod is survived by his wife and children: Sandra Silver and husband Greg; Larry Bailey and wife, Charlotte; Nancy Nolan and husband, Tom; and Lloyd Mark Bailey and wife, Judith; along with 10 loving grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Roderick was the last surviving of six children born to Lloyd David and Frances Varble (Reed) Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; along with siblings, Dr. Lyle Bailey, Pauline Steen, infant Mary Ellen Bailey, Ivan Bailey and Donald Bailey; and infant granddaughter, Sarah Silver.

The family expresses a special thanks to the staff at Major Hospital and Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville for the care and respect they extended to Roderick and his family.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin St., St. Paul, IN 47272.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at the funeral home, followed by burial at Van Pelt Cemetery in Waldron.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
