Robert E. Flodder, age 93 of Batesville, died Monday, May 2, 2016 at his residence. Born June 6, 1922 in Batesville, he is the son of Vera (Nee: Schein) and Leo Flodder Sr. He married Anna Mae Paul February 26, 1949 at St. Louis Church and she preceded him in death October 29, 2005. He served in the Army during World War II and while stationed in England, he met the Queen. After the service he came home and started Flodder Brothers Plumbing and Heating and was a member of St. Louis Church and the Batesville V.F.W.
For Bob, baseball was a lifelong passion. He played and coached for the Huntersville and Oldenburg teams for many years in the Tri-County League. An avid Reds fan, he met Pete Rose and Joe Nuxhall. Other interests included the Lawrence Welk Show, sitting on his porch, putting out his vegetable garden, telling stories of Batesville back in the day and getting in the car to go for rides. He loved his dog Roscoe and was very proud that four of his grandchildren have served in the military. One in the Air Force, one in the Army, one in the Marines and a great grandchild in the Army National Guard. According to his family, Bob enjoyed coon and squirrel hunting and often would say, “Your mother and I squirrel hunted more than we parked.” He apparently also had a strong dislike for tomato sauce and fish. While being shipped overseas during the war, the soldiers were fed a steady diet of fish. Bob’s discharge from the service was the end of his fish eating days.
He is survived by his daughter Roberta Siebert; sons Bernard, Terry, Timothy and George Flodder; sister Jean Struewing; brother Harold Flodder, all of Batesville; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by his daughter Diana Belter; sisters Eileen Steinkamp, Mary Hoff and brothers Leo Jr., Clyde and Virgil Flodder.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 5th, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, May 6th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Indiana Patriot Guard.
