Melvin Lee Powers, 81

Melvin Lee Powers, 81, Batesville, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Waters in Batesville.

Born, March 15, 1935 in Millhousen, Indiana, he was the son of Mike and Hattie (Beatty) Powers.

Melvin was a logger in the logging business.  He was a member of the Napoleon Methodist Church and he had been a lay speaker at the church.  He also went on several mission trips to Haiti.  He was a former member of the Gideon’s.

Melvin enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

He was married to Marguerite Hoffman on July 16, 1955 and she survives.

He is also survived by three sons, Donald Eugene (Kim) Powers, Acton, Ronnie (Lisa) Powers, Osgood, Eric (Kim) Powers, Greensburg; one daughter, Ginnie Sloan, Batesville; one sister, Margaret Benz, Greenwood; 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Melvin Lee Powers, Jr., six brothers, Glen, Thomas, Phillip, Willard, Michael and Paul Powers; four sisters, Ruth Benham, Helena Miers, Gladys Owens, Dorothy Miers.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Becky for all her help.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 to 1:00 p.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Bunting officiating.

Interment will be held in the Union Flat Rock Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice.
