Lady Trojans VB Team Falls Short To Host Lady Olympians

VolleyballEC volleyball traveled to Columbus East on Saturday for our first round of sectional play.

We lost 25-11, 25-15, and 25-23 to Columbus East, who defeated Bloomington South in the finals (5 sets).

The first two sets we just didn’t show up. I think the nerves got the best of us in the back court because our passing wasn’t anywhere close to what it has been all season. I think in the third set, reality sunk in and we had nothing left to lose. Our senior leadership stepped up and they were determined to fight for a win or leave it all on the court.

We did just that. I couldn’t be prouder of the way they bounced back. Sure, we lost, but most teams would have just folded after two ugly sets. Most teams would have quit, but these girls don’t know how to quit. They wanted that championship more than any team I have ever coached, and they believed they could. We ended the third set with a 0-4 run from Columbus East. We simply couldn’t get a stop when we needed it.

Our season ended earlier than we wanted, but I couldn’t be more proud of this group of girls. As a coach, this season goes down as one of the best I’ve ever been a part of. The seniors will be missed greatly and have set the bar extremely high for the returning players.

EC ended the season 26-7 overall and 13-1 in conference play.
