The East Central Junior Varsity Volleyball team won the Southport Invitational on Saturday going undefeated on the day.
In pool play the EC team defeated Centerville 25 – 14 & 25 – 6.
The second match EC beat Lutheran 25 – 15 & 25 – 14. In the championship match EC played the home team Southport.
We started of slow dropping a close first set 24-25 but after that we picked up the intensity and played with fewer unforced errors and won the next to sets 25-17 and 15-11.
We played well enough to win but with some players still injured we haven’t reached our potential. Luckily we have players like Kendall Gindling, Elaine May and Breanne Fox who stepped out of their normal roles to help the team. Also freshman setter Sammie Skeens also was a big help.
Stat leaders for the day were. Serving – Therese Gregg 25-26 with 10 aces, Becca Eckstein 28-30 with 5 aces and Kendall Gindling 8-8 with 5 aces. Kills – Kendall Gindling 13, Therese Gregg and Breanne Fox tied with 12. Assists – Becca Eckstein 20, Kendall Gindling 9 and Sammie Skeens 5. Diggs – Breanne Fox 18, Therese Gregg 12, Erin Wilhelm and Jill Seiwert tied with 11.
EC JV record is 5-0.
