Greensburg School Hosts Pledge of Allegiance Program

GREENSBURG, Ind. – Greensburg High School is hosting a unique event Friday in an effort to stress the importance of the Pledge of Allegiance.

History teacher John Pratt reached out to 60 speakers that will recite the Pledge of Allegiance in person or by video message.

Those scheduled to make an appearance at the high school auditorium include Greensburg Mayor Gary Herbert, State Representative Randy Frye and Greensburg graduate Alex Meyer, who is a top rated pitcher in the Minnesota Twins organization.

Nationally known personalities that will deliver the Pledge via online video include former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, “Garfield” creator Jim Davis, and actress Florence Henderson who appeared on “Brady Brunch.”

Other celebrities making an appearance via Skype include Mike Durant “Black Hawk Down,” Jimmy Olander from “Diamond Rio,” Kerry Kennedy, Gene Kranz (“Apollo Mission Control” Director) and four Olympic gold medalists.

A representative from each of the four major religions will recite the Pledge as well, according to the Greensburg Daily News.

The goal of the program is to increase awareness and appreciation of the words students recite at the start of school every morning.

The event this Friday is free and open to the general public  lasting from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m.
