A local driver avoided serious injury after an accident that shut down a portion of Coonhunters Road Wednesday afternoon.

Batesville Police received a 911 call from a witness around 12:30 p.m.

Dawn Spurlock, of Batesville, was driving south near C.R. 1350 N when she lost control of her blue Chevrolet suburban and hit a ditch.

Crash investigators say she over corrected and went left of center striking a utility pole. The vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side against a tree.

Spurlock, who police say was not seriously injured, was transported to Margaret Mary Health for a medical evaluation.

The road was shut down following the accident due to live wires on the roadway.

Investigating officer Jamie Straber was assisted on the scene by Batesville Fire & EMS.
