WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The man convicted of killing a fellow Purdue University student in January has died in prison.

Cody Cousins, 24, was discovered in his cell at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City Tuesday night. He arrived last week at the prison and was being housed in the orientation unit.

Indiana State Prison Superintendent Ron Neal said in a statement that it was determined Cousins died from self-inflicted wounds.

Cousins was serving a 65-year sentence for the murder of student Drew Boldt, 21, a teaching assistant on campus.

The January murder sent shock waves through campus and back in Southeastern Indiana.
