Cardinals Battle Knights In Middle School Hoops

basketballSt. Louis 8th grade boys basketball team bounced back from a loss to St. Lawrence on Monday night with a home win against South Dearborn on Tuesday night by a final score of 42 to 33.

After a slow start by the Cardinal’s, Adam Cox poured in 9 of his 11 points in the second quarter to give the Cardinal’s a 18 to 15 lead at the half.  Just like the start of the game St. Louis was flat in the third quarter and found themselves behind 29 to 25 going into the fourth quarter.

Charlie Dice decided to take the game over knocking down 12 of his 20points in the fourth to secure the win for the Cardinals.  Timely contributions from Eli Tuveson who finished with 7 points including a 3 ball, and Jacob Deutsch with 2 put backs for a total of 4 points kept the game in check.  Abe Peetz and Zach Harmeyer led St. Louis on defense.

The St. Louis 7th grade basketball team hosted the visiting South Dearborn Knights last night and came away another win by the score of 36-16.

The game started with South Dearborn coming out in an aggressive zone defense which caused problems for St. Louis as they had a difficult time penetrating their zone. The shots for the Cardinals were not falling early but the defense held them in the game as the score after first quarter had St. Louis up 5-2. The Cardinals shooting started to get on track in the 2nd quarter and at halftime St. Louis took a lead of 14-7. The Cardinals made some adjustments and coming out in the 2nd half the defense for St. Louis was able to create several turnovers into easy buckets and their outside shots began to fall with Kurt Siefert leading the way with a couple three pointers. By the end of the quarter St Louis had pushed the score to 32-10 putting the game out of reach.

The Cardinals were led defensively by Ben Schebler and Sam Voegele and on offensive side team had a balanced scoring attack with Jack Aplanalp with 3 points, Kurt Siefert 6, Wil Freeland 4, Riley Schebler 2, Andrew Oesterling 7, Lleyton Ratcliffe 8, and Sam Voegele had 6.
