Bulldogs Place 1st In 3-Way Track Meet

Track & FieldThe Batesville Bulldogs opened up their track season tonight with two victories as both the men’s and the women’s team defeated both Southwestern and Milan tonight on their home track. Scores were: Men’s-Batesville 105, Milan 43 and Southwestern Hanover 17, Women’s-Batesville 103, Milan 31 and Southwestern Hanover 18.

These victories and scores came from the reflection of the Bulldogs winning 13 out of 16 events on both the men’s and the women’s side. Although we have lost many talented seniors last year, this team has been training so hard since winter to fill in spots and continue the Batesville Track and Field tradition of tremendous work ethic and the pride it takes to wear the royal blue and white.

The threat of rain and lightening seemed stay away and many personal records were already shown as the night went on. But, first let’s talk about the champions of each event. Multiple winners were:
Samantha Heidlage in shot put (31’9.5”) and discus (81’0”), Kelsey Gausman in the 1600 (5:48) and 800 (2:36), Sophie Meadows in the 100 (12.94) and 200 (27.53), Clare Bruns in the 100 hurdles (18.05) and 300m hurdles (53.21), Garrett Wagner in the 110 hurdles (17.88) and 300 hurdles (45.88), Connor Bell in the 1600 (4:57) and 800 ( 2:14), Tanner Ayette in the 100 (11.68) and 200 (22.68) and all 3 relays. They were:  4 x 800 relay-Maria Wessel, Mary Poltrack, Sarah Poltrack and Kelsey Gausman (10:32) and Caleb Moster, Cole Nuhring, Grant Meyers and Connor Bell (8:59)
4 x 400 relay-Audrey Hall, Sophie Meadows, Clare Bruns and Mary Elizabeth Elkins (4:38) and Garrett Yorn, John Moody, Connor Bell and Michael Tunny (3:44)
4 x 100 relay-Clare Bruns, Madeleine Robben, Mary Elizabeth Elkins and Sophie Meadows (52.73) and Jacob Koehne, Zach Mears, Garrett Yorn and Tanner Ayette (45.50).

Other 1st place winners were: Jessica Wagers-pole vault (7’6”), Mary Poltrack-3200 (12:36), Kevin Bedel-Discus(117’2”), Robert Strobel-pole vault (9’6”). John Moody-400 (54.01) and Chris Riffle-3200 (12:27).

Ribbons and scores were given to the top 4 finishers. Besides the champion, there were many other Bulldogs contributing to the score and they were as follows…

2nd place finishers were:
Avni Patel-shot put, Libby Stenger and Kevin Bedel-high jump, Lexi Hatcher and Connor Lunsford-pole vault, Annalynne Doll-100 hurdles, Sarah Poltrack 1600, Madeleine Robben and Jacob Koehne-200, Maria Wessel and Jackson Wooldridge-3200, Garrett Yorn-100,
Quentin Gowdy-400, Chris Laymon-300 hurdles and Cole Nuhring-800

3rd place finishers were:
Avni Patel and Mitchell Gudgeon-shot put, Mary Elizabeth Elkins-long jump, Mary Poltrackand Jackson Wooldridge-pole vault, Audrey Hall-400, Annalynne Dolle-300 hurdles, Sarah Poltrack and Calvin Lehman-800, Lauren Eckstein-3200, Luke Forbeck-discus, Cole Nuhring-1600.

4th place finishers were:  Katherine Roell and Neal Nobbe-shot put, Haylee Harmeyer-100, Mary Elizabeth Elkins-400, Molly Weigel-300 hurdles, Emma Gausman and Grant Meyers-800, John Gerstbauer-discus, Tim Tunny-high jump, Garrett Yorn-long jump, Grant Meyers-1600.

As mentioned earlier, many Bulldogs managed to achieve personal records at tonightís meet and they were:  High Jump-Libby Stenger and Kevin Bedel, Pole Vualt-Lexi Hatcher, Shot Put-Mitchell Gudgeon, 100m dash-Sophie Meadows, 200m dash-Sophie Meadows, Madeleine Robben, Tanner Ayette, Jacob Koehne, Zach Mears and John Moody, 400m dash-Audrey Hall, 800m run-Candice Roell, 1600m run-Sarah Poltrack, 3200m run-Lauren Eckstein, 4 x 800m split-Maria Wessel and Candice Roell
4 x 400m split-Sarah Poltrack, Garrett Yorn and Connor Bell.

The Bulldogs compete again on Thursday as they will host the Greensburg Pirates and the East Central Trojans. Meet begins at 5 PM.
