Bulldogs Battle Raiders In Middle School Hoops Opener

basketballThe Batesville Middle School 7th Grade Team lost their season opener to South Ripley on Monday night 50 to 33.

The Bulldogs showed great effort throughout the entire game, but in the end it was not enough to overcome a tough Raider team. Batesville had a 5 to 4 lead at the end of the first quarter but South Ripley took control after that, taking a 25 to 18 lead into halftime and extending the deficit in the second half. The Bulldogs also had a tough time hanging on to the ball as they committed 20 total turnovers for the game.

Batesville was led in scoring by Calvin Sherwood and RJ Powell who each netted 8 points, followed by Mason Barker hitting two 3 pointers to end up with 6 points. Bristol Davies and Matthew Meyer had 4 points each and Ethan Brewer and Austin Cornn rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs with 2 points and 1 point respectively. Bristol Davies also had a team high in rebounds with 7.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday night against the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles at Jac-Cen-Del.

Batesville 8th Grade 8th grade boys won their season opener vs South Ripley by a nailbiting score of 41 to 39, with SR having a 3pt shot attempt at the buzzer.

Batesville held a solid lead throughout the game, but SR’s run in the final 4:00 gave them a chance to pull off the victory. Batesville held on to start their season 1-0.

Batesville Individual stats:  Colt Meyer led all scorers with 17 points, shooting 4/5 from inside the arc and 3/5 from 3 pt range.
