Walter Laurenti, 62, born in Rome, Italy, and who resided most of his life in Columbus, IN, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026, at The Waters of Batesville.
He was born on February 1, 1964, in Rome, Italy, the son of Mare Sante and Helen Roberta (née Scott) Laurenti.
Walter graduated from Columbus East High School in 1982. He worked as a CDL driver for many years and most recently as a machinist at Toyota before his illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Walter is survived by his sister, Diana (Mark) Kilbourne of Bonita Springs, Florida, and his two beloved nieces, Dana Kilbourne of Denver, Colorado, and Nicole Kilbourne of Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as extended family in Italy and California. He also leaves behind many lifelong friends from Columbus, whom he considered like brothers.
Walter was a truly unique individual who lived life on his own terms, yet was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He had a deep love for cars, especially classic muscle cars. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, canoeing, and spending time outdoors with friends.
He had a great sense of humor and often created his own jokes, which he proudly referred to as “Walt’s homespun humor.” Walter also loved driving and cherished the freedom of the open road. He enjoyed frequenting his favorite local spots in Columbus, not just for the places themselves, but for the friendships and familiar faces he found there.
Walter will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Cremation was chosen, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined.
If anyone would like to make a memorial donation, checks may be sent to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Walter Laurenti, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.
