Trojans and Tigers share EIAC volleyball title with Spartans

On Tuesday, Connersville secured at least a share of the EIAC Volleyball Championship with a win over Rushville.  On Thurday, both East Central and Lawrenceburg won their respective matches joined the Spartans to finish in first place with identical 6-1 conference records.

East Central’s stats were not available from the Trojan’s 3-2 home win over Greenburg.  Match scores were 25-14, 25-20, 19-25, 16-25 and 15-11.

Greensburg coach June Rigney said, “We got off to a very sluggish start and made it tough on ourselves to get ahead. We did find some energy, enthusiasm and execution and battled, but we just didn’t have enough to capture the win. We finished 4-3 in the EIAC and are now 18-6 overall.”

The Pirate coach mentioned strong serving came from Abigail Hoeing who was 28-28 and Janae Comer was 17-17. At the net, Ella Chapman had 18 kills and Josie Nobbe had 12. Chapman also made her presence known putting down 8 blocks. Jenna Foster put up 19 assists. Hoeing and Nobbe were active defensively with 17 and 16 digs respectively.

Meanwhile Lawrenceburg earned its share of the title with a three-set win at Batesville:25-22, 25-21 and 25-19.

Batesville’s reserves beat LHS in three games: 24-25, 25-15 and 20-18.

BHS JV assistant coach Vickie Heil said, “It was a very exciting match! Addison Westrick was perfect from the serving line going 8 for 8. Kaylie Raver led the team in kills with 10 and Sophie Gesell was close behind with 7. Kate Martin led in serve receive and Molly Meer had 11 assists.”
