Track recaps from May 6 and 7; Sweet breaks CHS hurdle record

The following are track recaps from Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7.  All events are high school unless noted otherwise.  There may be updates, so please check back.

In middle school track, Batesville, Franklin County and St. Louis competed at the Connersville invitational.   The Lady Bulldogs dominated outscoring the host and runner-up Lady Spartans by 80 points.  Franklin County edged Batesville for the boys title by six.

Girls’ Team Rankings –
1) Batesville 168, 2) Connersville 88,
3) Driver 64.50, 4) Centerville 57.50,
5) St. Louis Catholic, 46 6) Richmond 43,
7) Franklin County 25 and 8) Union County 23.

Boys’ Team Rankings
1) Franklin County 106, 2) Batesville 100,
3) Driver 85, 4) Connersville 76,
5) Union County 57, 6) Centerville 43,
7) Richmond 38 and 8) St. Louis Catholic 18.

Local event champs included, from Batesville, three by Paige Allgeier who was named meet MVP for the ladies.  Ella King won twice and broke two invitational records in the process.  She threw 36-2.5” in the shot put and 98’9” in the discus.  King’s new discus invite record was most recently set by Ella’s sister Veronica in 2021. Addison Luers, Nora Wiedeman and Clark Cannon all won single events for BMS.  The Bulldogs also took all three girls relays, the boys 3200 relay and the mixed throwers relays.

Franklin County winners included Brandon Willis, Mason Wewe and the Wildcat boys 1600 relay.

The Connersville boys track and field team finished fourth at the Greenfield Central Cougar Chase on Friday.  Brayden Jones won the pole vault.  Parker Sweet set a meet and school record in the 110 hurdles. He ran 14.30 to break both.   The girls finished sixth against some ver good competition

Batesville’s Meghan Fledderman-  The Batesville Middle School track team participated in the Connersville Invitational on Saturday against Franklin County MS, Driver MS, Connersville MS, Union County MS, Centerville MS, Richmond MS, and St. Louis MS.

Many Batesville athletes achieved personal best results. The girl’s team won the invitational with a score of 168 points which was 80 points better than the next closest school, Connersville MS. The boys were neck-in-neck with Franklin Co. MS but ended the invitational just six points shy of the winning team with a score of 100.

Special Notes:

  • Ella King broke the Connersville Invitational discus record set by her sister, Veronica, with a throw of 98′ 09.”
  • The overall meet MVP for boys and girls was Paige Allgeier with 32.5 points earned individually. Cannon Clark was the second highest scoring for male athletes with 25 points earned individually.
