The Batesville Middle School 7th Grade Volleyball team got off to a good start but couldn’t sustain a high level of play in a 2 set loss to Greendale falling by the scores 25-18; 25-19. Missed serves hurt throughout the match and ended a late comeback attempt in the second set. The team hopes to bounce back next week. Jade Martin had 5 service points including 2 aces. Grace Walter earned 3 kills in the front line, while Addison Luers, Reesa Zimmerman, and Martin each contributed 1 kill at the net.

The BMS 8th grade volleyball team lost to Greendale 25-13, 25-15. The Bulldogs were successful from the service line with 93% serving. From the front line Kate Bauer had 2 kills, Aly Peters and Annie Negovetich each had a kill. The top server was Ana Powner with 4 points. The Bulldogs fall to 2-2.

North Decatur Girls 7th Grade Volleyball falls to South Decatur High School 25-21, 12-25, 18-16. The Lady Chargers 7th grade team lost a hard fought batter with rivals South Decatur. After losing the 1st match with a substantial lead, they dominated the 2nd match with great serving. The 3rd match was back and forth, a nail biter for the fans. Even though we lost, I will call in a victory for their effort! Kendal Hoestkoetter lead serving with 9 Aces, Mia Stier had great night at the net with 3 good hits, and Jo Whitaker had some very crucial passes when we needed them.

North Decatur Girls 8th Grade Volleyball beat South Decatur High School 25-16, 25-15. The 8th grade Lady Chargers bring home another win! Clare Kinker and Kelsey Haley each had an impressive 8 point serving streak. Gabi Adams, Sydney Rohls, Madi Allen, Ally Whitaker & Hannah Gorrell brought out their inner beasts with several blocks and kills. Zoey Hersley, Anna Mauer, Brooke Mauer & Laney Saunders with many perfect passes to Hannah Gorrell & Kelsey Haley to set up for the kills! 3-0 and moving on!

Thursday night was an evening full of exciting volleyball. East Central was the setting and the Batesville High School girls’ varsity volleyball team arrived hungry for a win. The first two games were action-packed with lots of exhilarating volleys. Both games ended with East Central on top 25-20. The Batesville girls fought back in the third game winning 25-19. The battle was real in the 4th game and it went down to the wire. East Central came out on top even though Batesville fought hard. The final game ended 26-28. Cayman Werner had 14 kills and 5 blocks. Regina Gerstbauer went a perfect 21 for 21 with serves and Kylie Laker led in assists with 16. Z
The reserve team lost in two games. Maggie Wilson led the team in serve-receive. Kaylie Raver led the team in setting with five assists.
The Freshman team opened their season losing to East Central in three games. EC took the first game 25-10. The Freshman Dogs came back with a win in the second game 25-24. The third game ended 15-13 with EC on top. Kaylie Raver was the top server. Kate Martin led the back row and Laura Schwegman led the team with 4 kills.

The AquaTrojans took on the AquaTrojans in the intersquad meet of the century!! The Red team was victorious over the Black team by 7 points. It was a great meet by all swimmers.
Individual winners include Andrew Strotman – 200 Free; Elle Jankovsky – 100 IM; Riley Reany – 50 Free, 50 Back; Bree Cleary – 1 meter diving; Aubree Popen – 50 Fly; Riley Shumate – 100 Free; Kyle Goodwin – 400 Freestyle, 50 Breast.

The Greensburg Lady Pirates Soccer competed in their first conference game of the season against The Batesville Bulldogs. The Lady Pirates were not able to put points on the board. The Bulldogs dominated the passing game and only allowed the Pirate to take seven shots on goal. Final score was Batesville 8, Greensburg 0.
Greensburg’s Keeper Junior Ella Lowe face faced 43 shots on goal and managed to save all but 8. Sophomore Macy Smith was the team’s lead shooter at 5.Junior Mykenzi Morlan attempted three goals and Senior Emily Rosales attempted 1.
This brings the Lady Pirates record to 3-2 for the season. They travel to South Ripley for a 5 P.M. start on Tuesday and Madison Consolidated on Thursday with a 5 P.M. start.

The Batesville Bulldogs Boys Junior Varsity Soccer team traveled to Lawrenceburg. In their first full match of the season, the Bulldogs gave up a couple goals early and had to play catch up the rest of the way. Batesville was down 2-0 at half but made plenty of good runs, just were unable to put it in the net in the first half. In the second half, a corner kick by Grant Peters led to a header by Thomas Hartman who scored the first goal of the season for the Junior Varsity. The Bulldogs fought hard all night but ultimately, could not bounce back from Lawrenceburg’s early lead.
Junior Varsity is now 0-1-1 on the season.

The East Central Lady Trojans Volleyball team defeated Batesville at all three levels last night in a non-conference match-up. The freshman won in 3, JV in 2, and varsity in 4. The varsity scores were 25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 28-26.
‘It was just a fun match to be involved in. So many of the players on the court know each other from playing club together, so it always makes things more interesting. Both teams played hard and refused to quit.’ Trojans Coach Cassie Laker.
Varsity is now 3-1 on the season (1-0 in EIAC).
The Batesville Bulldogs Boys Soccer team traveled to Lawrenceburg for a conference match against the Tigers winning 4-3.
This was an intense fight for the win and a close match overall. The first goal came from the Tigers after 2 Bulldogs collided on a miscommunication leaving the net open. The next shot at goal was given up from a handball in the box by Batesville, but the PK deflected off of the cross bar for a close call. 20:37 Eli Pierson finally gets a huge breakaway and taps the ball around the keeper. The final goal of the half Lawrenceburg dribbles 1v1 down the right side and makes a shot on goal. In the second half the Bulldogs responded strongly when JJ Kuisel timed a pass across the keeper to Eli Pierson for a one touch finish just one minute into the half. The next 2 goals came from Eli Pierson and then Ian Powers. With only 7 seconds on the clock the Tigers sent a long high ball which bounced off the keepers gloves into the net.

| The OA girls welcomed the Lady Lions of Rushville to the OA Graveyard on Thursday winning 6-3.
The girls got off to a hot start, Kate Walke scored at the 16:14 mark. Senior Leila Savage found the back of the net at 14:58, Kate Walke got her second goal of the game with 10:33 in the first half. The Twisters held the Lions scoreless in the first half. The second half the Lady Lions scored twice in a 8 minute span – once on a penalty kick, once within the 18 yard box. The Twisters have the weekend off and don’t return to the pitch until Thursday, September 3rd as they head to Centerville. |
