Decatur County, In. — A Switzerland County High School football player continues his recovery following a head injury suffered in game with North Decatur Friday night.
Lt. Rob Duckworth from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department says the 15-year-old player was injured in the 1st quarter during a kickoff return. The player was semi-conscious and complaining of weakness in his extremities. Officials quickly requested a medical helicopter.
At 7:30 p.m. the player was transported to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Reports indicate the player had surgery to relieve pressure on his spine following the discovery of cervical fractures. The procedure did relieve some of the pressure but the he remained in ICU as of Saturday morning.
There are unconfirmed reports that fundraising efforts are underway to assist the family. For more information look here.

A player from the Switzerland County Football team had to be life lined after suffering a head injury during play.
The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department says at 7:30 p.m. a medical helicopter was requested by officials at the football field on State Road 3 near East County Road 300 North. The player was taken to Riley Children’s Hospital. His condition is not available.

The player came out of surgery better than expected. They were able to relieve the pressure on his spine, caused by the fractures, which is allowing him to regain more feeling. He will be in ICU for about a week to closely monitor his recovery.
